Garden Cabanas is located in beautiful Placencia, Belize, a one time sleepy fishing community that has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Belize. The Placencia area is known for its beautiful beaches, offshore cayes, and proximity to the lush Belizean interior full of tropical rainforests and mystical Mayan archeological sites. Placencia is the perfect place to make your home base for all your travels throughout Belize
Tucked away in a growing garden setting in beautiful “down town” Placencia Village; Garden Cabanas is the ideal hideaway for your visit to the Placencia Peninsula. While not located right on the beach Garden Cabanas’ convenient location is just minutes - that’s walking time, not driving time - from the most scenic and popular spots around.
A short walk along a sandy foot path will bring you along the shores of the Placencia Harbor, whose protected waters often give safe haven for a menagerie of catamarans
and small mono hulls. While not the best spot for swimming you can often spot dolphins patrolling the waters and if you take the time to look you can often see tiny crabs and fish, even a ray or two in the grassy shallows. Along the harbor you’ll also find some of Placencia’s most delicious food at the family run Merlene’s Café and be able to enjoy a few cocktails at Yoli’s Bar – an open air thatched bar built out over the water. The use of natural hardwoods there combined with the tranquil waters surrounding will take your breath away.
Heading in another direction from your home away from home, this time towards the Placencia Lagoon and what is quickly becoming known as Sunset Point you’ll find yourself at the Sugar Reef where you can enjoy the colorful atmosphere and even more colorful sunsets. While relaxing there you might hear a fish or two jumping out of the channel that makes its way into
the lagoon. You might even want to take you fishing rod with you – nice “pan fryers” are often caught there. If you think you can sing or even know that you can’t you can enjoy a little after dark fun at the weekly Croon on the Lagoon.
And when the need for warm sand and even warmer water becomes more then you can bear head out to Placencia’s famous beaches. Five minutes will get you to the shade of your coconut tree of choice and footsteps from the azure waters. On a calm day the water looks like glass and you can see cayes dotting the horizon. A perfect place to just chill….
Or if you need the sun, sand and sea and a totally “I’m on Holiday” kind of feel head up the beach to the Barefoot Beach Bar. Just get settled on a beach chair and someone will be out to
take your order. The drink menu is longer than the food menu and with creations like the Category 5, the Placencia Breeze and the Belizean Long Island Iced Tea you are sure to get into the real vacation mood. The Barefoot Beach Bar has a great night of dancing ever Sunday with a local band and everyone comes out to join in the fun.
Two of the best-stocked groceries in the village are just a few minutes away as is a fresh vegetable vendor which makes your option of cooking home a great one. Ask someone how to prepare you favorite local dish, grab your coconut milk, ricado, and hot sauce – almost all the great local dishes have those ingredients - and test it out.
At Garden Cabanas everything you’ll need is literally just moments away
